for a Black
Buffy Summers - Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Elle Woods - Legally Blonde
Tess Mcgill - Not for the young ones lol, secretary in the 80s movie Working Girl
Andrea Sachs - for the girls that don’t know that’s the bitch with the ovah ass closet from The Devil Wears Prada
Selena Kyle - I know, I know.. you can come for me on this one but I’m speaking of the Selena Kyle from Batman Returns (1992) imagine having a woman so secure in her flaws and resilient in her rejection from men that she turns into the ultimate femme fatale
Xena - Need I say more.
I would just love to see a black, ambitious, alpha female character that does not demean other women depicted in the media.. whether it be in science fiction, a romantic comedy, etc… and yes I love Bonnie Bennett and I want to emphasize LOVE.. I have been with her character from the beginning but we all know she will never be able to reach her potential in the grips of writers of that show… her character is only for people who love Bonnie’s potential .. she has the ability to be one of the most uplifting science fiction/fantasy characters on television but she has been diminished to a supporting/underling role in the wake of her new story line and yes we have had other characters to pacify us… from Ashley and Tanya from the Power Rangers to Storm from the X-men, and Kendra from Buffy the Vampire Slayer but they were all supporting characters.. We need a new breed of black woman characters that don’t revolve around her friends, her family, her man or lack of one.. a woman who is not in need of guidance but possesses all of these traits from the onset and can headline a tv show to.. I love all of the characters above and they have been essential to how I view women in tv and the media but can I get a black woman super heroine, alpha female that doesn’t live her life for the validation of others.. just a thought…
